Steel Horses are going on the Heavy Duty Motorcycles shop ride!
They call it their "Dam Fine Ride". The ride starts at the Heavy Duty Motorcycles shop (16 Lapis Street, Underwood) with a BBQ breakfast. You can arrive at the shop at 0800. The ride departs at 0900. It will head west to Fernvale, then north past Lake Wivenhoe, and do a loop around Wivenhoe Dam, through Crossdale, Camboonbah, Esk, and Mount Hallen. Then on to Plainland for lunch. Route map is here. It should take about 2.5 hours to ride from the Heavy Duty shop to Plainland. ALL types of motorcycles are welcome. Steel Horses members CAN wear their vests. There is a payment of $10 to attend the ride; but that covers a bacon and egg roll and drink before the ride. So far 241 bikers are interested in going. 103 have said they will go. Should be a big run! To keep the Steel Horses members together, we will ride to The Heavy Duty Motorcycles shop as a group. Meet at Springwood Suzuki (112 Kingston Rd, Underwood) (aka "Motorcycles R Us") at 8:00am. |

A ride to Texas! Goodna - Peak Crossing - Stanthorpe - Texas - Goodna. This ride will be about 570km. Departure point will be the usual West Ride departure point (Goodna Maccas) at 8:00am sharp on Saturday 23rd January. Some (most?) riders will be staying the night at Texas, and returning to Brisbane the next day (Sunday 24th January). Anyone staying the night needs to make their own bookings for accommodation directly with the Stockman Hotel in Texas. |

The Vietnam Veterans and Veterans MC are having an Anzac Day Dawn Service around their Cenotaph in the grounds of their bunker at 132 Meakin Road, Kingston. They have invited other bike clubs to attend, and, as we did on Anzac Day last year, Steel Horses will be going (as a group).
The service starts at 5:30 AM, and they are locking the entry gates at 5.15 AM sharp. So we can’t be late! Steel Horses members are to meet at McDonalds at Calamvale (678 Compton Road, Calamvale) at 4.30 AM (or earlier if you want coffee and such). We will leave McDonalds at 4.45 AM and ride off to the bunker. The Vietnam Veterans and Veterans MC's Anzac Day Dawn Service is a very moving event, and one that definitely shouldn't be missed. Last year almost every Steel Horses member turned up for it. During the service, Steiny will be laying a wreath on the Cenotaph on behalf of our club. After the ceremony, we will be riding 9km down the road to Andy and Shelly's place for a BBQ breakfast. The club will be providing all the food, etc. See you there! |

LAVERDA CONCOURS Staged at the Cleveland Showgrounds: Long Street, Cleveland, Brisbane. Club Laverda is once again putting on its Concours show. This is an excellent annual event that's now in its 28th year!! Once again, Steel Horses will have a strong presence there, complete with our big marquee, promoting our club to potential new members, etc. Last year many members volunteered to staff the Steel Horses display. This is a pretty big event, and about 8000 people are expected to attend, with 35 trade and motorcycle club stalls and plenty of free parking for motorcycles and scooters. The show has plenty of food and beverage stalls and the crowd will be entertained by the popular Dave Ritter Band. It should be a great day! |

This scheduled South Ride has been replaced with a ride to the Obi Obi Motorcycle Show. Start time will be 9:00am at the usual NORTH RIDE meeting point: the Caltex Carseldine Roadhouse (1754 Gympie Rd, Carseldine QLD 4034) The Obi Obi Motorcycle Show will be a family friendly event, with food and coffee available, a band and a bar (as well as the show 'n shine competitions). Entry is a reasonable $5. The event starts at 9am. Many of the people organising the motorcycle show also helped run the popular Mapleton bike shows through the 1990s, raising more than $20,000 for the Mapleton community. The 3-day HARLEY DAVIDSON HOG NATIONAL RALLY. The 2016 event is completely different in that it is open to ALL MAKES of motorcycles! You do NOT have to own a Harley! You do NOT have to be a HOG member! This year it's being held in Wollongong (a short 1,029km ride ride for Brisbaneites). If last year's 2015 Tamworth event was any indication how a National Rally is to be held, then this National Rally at Wollongong should be a real doozy!!! Here is the official website for the Australian Harley Days Rally: http://www.australianharleydays.com.au/ This is going to be a BIG event! It's expected that 6000 people will attend the rally, with almost 50% being non-HOG members. There are a LOT of activities planned, including road and static demo rides of Harley machines, dyno, merchandise, food and beverage stalls, and guided rides of the Illawarra coastal region south of Sydney. Jak has outlined the route details that the Steel Horses members will be taking on the ride down to the Harley Days rally (and back), and he's also supplied a route map. This is going to be an excellent ride! :-) There are already quite a few Steel Horses riders who will most definitely be riding down to Wollongong in October for this event. |
